America’s Very Bad, No Good, Terrible Week

An unfinished version of this post went up this morning instead of staying in draft mode.

I don’t know what it is about this week-ish, but it always fucking sucks.

It snuck up on me this week, but I (weirdly) had a calendar note to point this out.

For whatever reason, bad shit happens around this time of the month. You will see the examples below.

THESE ARE ALL ACROSS DIFFERENT YEARS. The pattern is what we are talking about. The consistency. Call it coincidence or fate.

April 13th – Apollo 11 Explosion

April 14th – President Lincoln is assassinated

April 15th – Boston Marathon Bombing, Titanic Sinks

April 16th – Virginia Tech Massacre

April 17th – Fertilizer Plant Explosion

April 18th  – Beirut Bombing

April 19th – USS Iowa Gun Turret Explosion, Waco Siege Ends ( I SINCERELY HOPE THAT EVERYONE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RAGE LIVES A MISERABLE LIFE AND DIES ALONE IN THEIR OWN FILTH AND SELF CONSCIOUS.), Oklahoma City Bombing

April 20th – Columbine Shooting, Deepwater Horizon

Don’t forget April 19, 1775. Rather good day getting better things started.

I rank Patriots Day even higher than Independence Day in importance. It is true that recent history in this month has been full of enemy psyops and other terrors, and that the holiday itself has been denigrated into “Marathon Monday” by the media and modern denizens of that fallen State where so many of our early heroes lived. The tax deadline on April 15th has also been a lifelong source of dread and sullen resentment as it has always been a blunt reminder of the oppression that has been allowed to assert itself into the conduct of our lives.
Still, The Lexington Battle, probably my favorite historic fight, has always held a fascination for me as the ultimate example of underdog rebels resisting the tyranny of a distant king. The season here in New England is still early Spring, and the leaves are just budding and the nights are still cold and it is easy to feel the echoes of that battle in the season and place in which it was fought. There are no insect pests in the air yet, and once your taxes are in the mail, it is one of the best times of the year to be outside training with your weapons or scouting for the upcoming turkey season. If you ignore the media and that damn marathon it can be one of the best times of the year.
