The Ford Bronco Is Back!
In a bit of good news, Ford has officially brought back the Bronco!
This is one I’ve followed for a while now, since Ford, Dodge and Chevy have flirted with throwback names and designs for their cars and some of their trucks (Power Wagon, for example) and Ford had hinted for years at a Bronco concept. I’ve thought for at least 20 years that bringing a Bronco on the market to challenge the Jeep Wrangler made too much sense, They’ve finally done it and here’s their video:
I’m excited for this one in a four door drop top, but it looks like I’m gonna have to wait in line. Ford says the demand on its site for Bronco reservations crashed due to the traffic. Not shocked, because if its half as good as it looks, at its pricepoint just under the competing Wrangler, it won’t be long until we see a bunch in the wild.
I can’t wait.

If the after market support is there then it will compete with the wrangler. If not it’ll be another fj cruiser.
I think it will be, knowing Ford. The FJ had a couple of major knocks against it- it was overpriced, for one, and it had a strange suicide door setup that was far from ideal. Couple that with no drop top and…yep.
That said I liked them, but didn’t love them. I’ve got some buddies with them and they’re great vehicles.

Glad to see Ford doing this, but given the price if I had that much money I’d get my original ’65 restored.
Matt
Have you got one? I have a guy that I helped restore one with.
No thanks, for a lot less can buy/or in my case build up a awesome Jeep/Jimmy/blazer or a real Bronco.A motor and drive train any back yard mechanic can wrench/not a bunch of air bags/computers/it’s for the children motor shutting off at lights while waiting for it to turn green.
I have built many a 4×4 and will continue to do so,can get a built older one in decent shape for low to mid 20’s,something that will run well with basic care forever.
You can have a money pit too. Been that route twice, although the K5 is my favorite vehicle of all time.
I had an 84 K5 I dropped a new 350 in. Loved it, but it quickly turned into a money pit with one thing after another after another. It was a trail rig I used to pull busted rock crawlers. When I got back from Iraq I sold it and picked up a Rubicon. Way less problems out of the box, even though it was smaller.
@ NC Scout. Yep, I have a very early one. It was made in the first month of the first year of production. About 2,000 or less off the production line. It grew up / old in Missouri so given that they basically did no rust protection back then and Missouri used plenty of salt the body is in a bad way. But its’ mechanics are solid.
It’s been with me back and forth across this country numerous times, including an assignment down in Goldsboro. I’ll probably take it to the farm where it can soldier on.

Wow!! What color, if you don’t mind me asking? And do you have the stock white wheels?
@ NC Scout, I don’t mind at all. It is a two seater with the steel panel behind the front seats allowing the use of the half cab, with the 170 straight six, Detroit Lockers front and rear, and the classic turquoise & white paint scheme.
It was a base model that came with standard wheels and hubcaps, a type of hubcap that they only used for a short period, before switching to the type they used for the rest of the series. One of the hubcaps got lost during a PCS and I’ve been looking for years for a replacement. A while ago I saw a full set on eBay, for $600. Guess I’ll have to live without them.

Absolutely gorgeous! That was the color I pictured, but the burnt orange was a close second.
@NC Scout, I just looked on eBay and there’s a NOS set of those original hubcaps. For $4,500.00! You could get a nice set of NODs for that price.
Matt
Wow…that’s high. Imagine what the compete vehicle goes for.
Meh, looks like an old International Scout. No new except a higher inflated price tag.
Can you get a Scout though?
To me, it resembles the International Harvester Scout but I like those too. Ford appears to have a winner here.
My Brother has an old Bronco II with windshield removed, front door posts left to sweep away branches from front seat. Doors and roof – gone. Very Jeepish.
The IH Scout- another awesome rig that you don’t see much anymore. There was a guy at Bragg that had a super clean one. OD Green, black rims, 35s on it. He definitely stood out in the Jeep crowd.
My favorite 4×4/build was a 1977 E-100 van body on a 1975 F-250 frame, running 33’s/rearched springs for a mild lift/a lot of other nonsense. Was a open interior with 2 captains chairs and a kick ass stereo/a mobile boom box. This unit had a divorced transfer case that while added a couple of joints and a shaft made it a breeze to work on.
I will say being young/4 wheeling/Jack Daniels ect. well, met it’s demise without any injuries excepting my pride and later a review of stupidity which have never and will never repeat.
I really like and found one with a good body(can do all the mechanics/body work, not so much)would get a Scout in a heart beat!
To those who get the new rig, hope you have fun with it(and will winch you out with a 70’s vehicle!).
Those old overland vans were so cool. The new ones are too, but I think they’re way too expensive. That said I saw a really cool E-350 last time I was in CA rigged up to run in the desert.
