“Prayers of a Warrior”: Psalm 70 – My Help and My Deliverer, by CountrySlicker
Make haste, O God, to deliver me! Make haste to help me, O LORD!
Let them be ashamed and confounded Who seek my life;
Let them be turned back and confused Who desire my hurt.
Let them be turned back because of their shame, Who say, “Aha, aha!”
Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
And let those who love Your salvation say continually,
“Let God be magnified!”
But I am poor and needy; Make haste to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, do not delay. (Psalm 70)
There are two types of people in the world. Those that are running to God and those that are running away from God. The psalmist, in his time of trouble, is running to God. He recognizes that there is a place for God in every situation in his life.
The psalmist acknowledges his own standing in comparison to God… “I am poor and needy”. This statement isn’t about his physical or financial condition. This statement is about his own spiritual condition and his dependence upon God. He declares… “You are my help and my deliverer”.
Having recognized this relationship between himself and God, and choosing to run to God in his time of trouble, the psalmist is able to declare… “Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say continually, “Let God be magnified!”
Where do you find yourself today… running to God or running away from God? Are you turning to God for guidance and strength to deal with the challenges of life and your worldly enemies? Or, are you overcome with hopelessness and despair because you have chosen to take on the world apart from God?
Choose to run to God. When you experience His fellowship and the hope that comes with a relationship with Him, you too will be able to rejoice and magnify Him!
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
May you run to God and experience His peace and joy in the midst of this fallen world.
God Bless,
