Massachusetts Steamship Authority Hit by Ransomware Attack; Ferries Delayed

Hot on the heels of the ransomware attack on the oil pipeline and the slaughterhouses, another ransomware attack has been reported on infrastructure – this time steamships.

A ransomware attack on the Steamship Authority of Massachusetts hampered operations Wednesday morning.
The largest ferry service to the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, the Steamship Authority issued a statement warning that traveling customers may be delayed as a result.
A “team of IT professionals” is working to assess the impact of the cyber attack, according to the Authority.
No further information was immediately available.

As I said in my previous post: Targeted attacks on infrastructure are going to increase in volume. Rough times lay ahead.

Sooner or later (likely sooner), these disruptions will not only follow one after another but will begin to occur simultaneously. At that point, the current lapses of “civility” will look like choir practice in comparison to just how “real” things are going to become.
Besides your WODs, communications and armory, make sure you have secured a minimum of three months supplies. Enough not only for you but for all of those you are responsible for plus some extra..
Neither China nor Russia would profit from “nuking” us. But destabilizing us, eroding our ability to maintain our reserve currency status… oh yeah.
We are under attack. And when the herd realizes it the hour will be late, the ensuing panic monumental.

These attacks happen all the time and have been for years. They’re just finally reporting on it. I’m going to Charlie Mike to the next Fake News blitz.

    I am divided.
On the one hand we fulfilled Lenin`s prophecy “The capitalists will sell us the rope by which we hang them” by introducing non-tracable crypto-currency (and those Ransomware people demand payment in this crypto-currency).
So, if this money were tracable, we would stand a chance.
But on the other hand I dont want the government to know all about me, e.g. where I spend my money etc.
I dont know much about Pcs, but can those infections not be traced back?
I wouldnt be surprised if sooner or later a company follows the example of the mexican cartels when they decided to teach Anonymus a bloody lesson.
And the roleplaying game of Shadowrun / Cyberpunk 2020 will be reality.

I as typing am on the ferry!I am selling me mums home in the island(real pain in ass) and me car broke down on island,a fix local shop can’t get to any time soon. The boats are still loading cars/trucks and passengers, just computers down and a bit slow. With computers down may not get me reservation that I need canceled refunded/rescheduled,that said, the boats are rolling.
I do not see the steamship as a big target, power grids ect. a different story.
This concludes your live report from the Steamship Authority, thanks for traveling with us!

I do not suppose that these latest hits will wake up any of the government and corporate bloat to the fact that when they get stung that they (individually) may be among the lives lost. Last three food, fuel and now transportation.
How many foreign state sponsored infrastructure intrusions where nothing overt was done except for planting a virus. Sooner or later a large area will go offline for water, sewer and electric all at the same time.
Do not worry about an EMP this is more effective and less destructive to infrastructure – the new face of warfare.

I think a big part behind these attacks is to allow the Feds to nationalize these industries in the name of infrastructure security. After all, they’ve said they can’t protect private companies, it’s not the government’s responsibility to do that.
