Add a string and line level that add very little weight to your kit. The eye can be deceived on plumb and level and proper pitch on that drain is important….the string line level will confirm your not building a pond by mistake. Great video and especially liked the pocket class on the compass.
Bought a medium ALICE pack in Kalispell, Montana at the Army/Navy Surplus store 33 years ago when I got to Montana. I still use it today. I have two of them now. I know my friends have lighter, more modern systems, but I am sticking with mine for now. Life is good!
Those newer lighter systems are not half as good as some may think. I spend some time using mine, which was a top quality brand, and one day I picked it up to throw it on my shoulder. The strap ripped off. Never seen that with a military kit. The sunlight degrades the lighter nylon systems, and they simply don’t last. The next best thing to an ALICE pack would be the new laser cut lightweight Cordura nylon systems.
Glad you hear you say this. Makes me appreciate my old pack even more. Thanks for all the great Posts you are putting up here at AP!
The smoreo is solid gold. Thanks
