Have always marveled at the sense of safety some folks have when they are, in a sense, trapped. Their connection to the surface, the means of egress/entrance, air supply, etc… each having two ends, the bunker accupant controlling only one.
An example: somebody at a construction site has to use the “phone booth”. And somebody else (a real joker) parks a forklift against the door… ha ha, a real laugh riot. Even with a year’s supply of food inside.
IF you have a bunker, it might save you if nobody else knows about it. And nobody else can stumble upon or find the connections to surface.
What about enhancing mobility and options?

Very interesting. Kinda spooky too.
Patton had somethin to say about fixed fortifications. Seems to me without a sentry, it’d be damn easy to simply weld a door shut and leave.
I used to watch that Prepper documentary or series (whatever) on Discovery I think. I always wondered how they would hide the noise from their generators. That was maybe 10 years ago so maybe there’s something better. I wondered how they would keep that electricity turning without making too much noise. Can solar pull it off nowadays? Still better be in BFE because that will be easy to spot and a magnet for people looking to take your shit. And you can hide in those things for some time but eventually they will force you out once they find you. Am I mistaken?
For hidden fireproof storage they rock. Living underground is for rodents.
It sure beats DEATH.
“Bunkers” only have Value in case of Nuclear War, and then only in the limited sense that >IF< you are not Danger Close to the Nuke, you can stay Sheltered for long enough of the Fallout to Decay (to a still-unsafe level)
A Basement "Shelter Space" would be valuable to keep non-Combatants safe if your location is under Attack, but you still have to Defeat the Attackers.
All the talk about 'Billionaires' Bunkers', and the nonsense of 'Secret Underground Cities' ignores the Fact that ANY Underground Facility can be Defeated, and the occupants driven out or Killed, with a few gallons of Gasoline into the Air Intake. And in any event where a Total Breakdown of 'government' occurs, the fact that the (p)resident, and a few Billionaires are still alive, doesn't mean that anyone else is going to Pay any Attention to them later. Remember, without millions of 'minions' in Federal, State and Local 'government', no politician (or Billionaire) is going to have Any Ability to Control the People.
