Well, they did drink contaminated water, we all did the intakes for the desalination plant are on the bottom of the ship, as are the jet fuel storage…which leaks. Every water fountain on an aircraft carrier underway smells like jet fuel because the jet fuel evaporates before the water and winds up in the potable tanks.
