REPOST: TDG 5: Convoy Ambush
Originally posted on April 6, 2021
I started this series, TDG (Tactical Decision Game) Tuesdays, to get you more in the mindset of how you could potentially handle a given tactical scenario with a limited amount of resources and manpower. My goal is to get you to read these scenarios and think about what resources you have available, what sort of scenarios you might encounter, and what gaps you need to fill in your equipment/training.
I will use the basic 5-paragraph operations order format, or SMEAC, to present the scenario as follows;
Situation: Disposition of all friendly, hostile, and adjacent forces.
Mission: What we are trying to do.
Execution: How we are going to do it.
Admin & Logistics: Who/what is getting where and how.
Command & Signal: Who is in charge and how they are communicating.

Sat down 3 times to write this…my IEDs got refined, so the 5 minute thought process is out. However, the ambush and stuff from the garage were in my head in seconds so it’s semi valid. My problem is that stopping the envoy is tough. Am hoping to get great ideas on this. Only things I considered is like pungy type traps with spikes for the tires. Maybe powder and shrapnel under vehicle to destroy the drive train.
First thing I would harvest some air bags out of the cars behind the garage. Second, I would grab anything remote controlled like gate controllers, and garage door openers. If by chance I had an Estes rocket engine sitting around it would get prepped for that cardboard shipping tube that the rocket kit fits in. The nose cone would have to be wrapped in nails or something, and filled with oxy/acetylene. Sealed of course with a match stick side forward and a striker in the nose cone fixed at an angle so it gets struck on impact. Grab an ignition coil either from a tv or car and use a freq gen to get it going. Momentary push button and charged AC capacitor is enough for this exercise to run it.
Then on the air bags; pull the covers off, cut the bag out, and form a thin piece of flashing aluminum down into the frame to the charge. Warm up some wax while you’re breaking up some ball bearing and pour bearings in with the wax on the aluminum. Makeshift Claymore. Use your remote devices here. Place them around the ambush and set them off when the participants exit the vehicles. With what ever contingency you have with AR’s can bat mop up from there.
If this is supposed to be over on the other site then cut and paste it over there if you find any value in it.
