Terrifying footage shows black-clad CARTEL gunmen patrolling most dangerous stretch of US-Mexico border, just yards from Texas towns

Mexican cartel members clad in all black and armed with rifles have been spotted patrolling a stretch of the US-Mexico border.

The large group were seen on Saturday near Fronton Island which has been described as the most dangerous area along the border and is just yards away from Texas towns.

Drone footage captured at least 10 cartel members walking through woodlands on the Mexican side and some men had their guns pointed as they examined the area.

It comes after US state troopers seized the 170-acre Mexican cartel-controlled island in the middle of the Rio Grande River last month.

The small island has been a hotspot for gang rivals the Gulf Cartel and Cartel del Noreste who are regularly embroiled in shooting fights over control. It has been used to smuggle drugs, weapons and cross migrants into America illegally.

Footage shows the cartel members, disguised in black outfits, walking along the uninhabited stretch of the US-Mexico border.

Some men had their rifles aimed as they inspected the area the while others continued to march ahead.

The incident comes after trail cameras captured grainy images of three suspected cartel gunmen carrying rifles and dressed in body armor crossing into Fronton from Mexico in August.

Months earlier five alleged Cartel Del Noreste members were arrested in the same area. They too were armed and dressed in tactical gear.

In 2019, four shooters armed with fully-automatic weapons fired more than 50 rounds from the Mexican side of the river at a U.S. Border Patrol boat. Miraculously, no one was hurt.

The stretch of land is considered to be the most dangerous area anywhere along the border due to the non-stop cartel activity.

It has been used to smuggle cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and weapons as well as human trafficking.

The 180 residents of Fronton say violence is normal in the area with Texan farmers and ranchers intimidated.

When the cartel members are not killing each other, they use the island as a safe haven when fleeing the Mexican military or American law enforcement.

The lawlessness has transformed the region into a major drug trafficking corridor.

The cartels stash drugs in the thick vegetation while smuggling their illicit commodities north, then stop there again as they return south with cash and weapons.
