Request for Information (RFI) – Weekly SITREP
I am going to make this a weekly post so that we can use this as a place to make any reports on unusual activity or localized hotspots of trouble. We did this a few times during COVID (here, here, here, and here) but I figured that, as our conditions continue to degrade around the country, it would be useful to bring this back as a regularly recurring topic of discussion.

General Location: SW Missouri Ozarks
Food Price / Shortages: Last week shopping I noticed many locations on the local Walmart shelves were empty. Specifically pasta, and other “convience” type foods. School is out for the year, so that may be related.
Fuel Prices / Shortages: Diesel is down to 3.74/gal at the local fill up. Gasoline is in the 2.50 range. No shortages noted
Unusual Military Movement: Overflight of UH-60 last week, west to east, at least 5000 AGL. This is unusual, as there are no military air assets in the area.
Civil Unrest / Crime: None to speak of.
Interesting Local News / Events: None
Public Service Interruptions: None
Changes in Patterns of Life: None to speak of

Appreciate the report!
General location: Coastal NC
Food price/shortages: nothing unusual in this area.
Fuel price/shortages: gasoline in the $2.95-$2.99 range, diesel has been in the $3.70-$3.80 range.
Unusual military activity: For the past two weeks, multiple rotary wing craft have been flying overhead. I’m near two large military bases plus a Coastie station so it’s not quite unusual, but these are between 2-4 aircraft and all but one are always blacked out, with the lead with the lights on.
Civil unrest/crime: Between Thanksgiving to New Years, slight climb in call volume. Holidays rile people up.
Interesting/local news: A “crocmas” tree has been in the news for the past few weeks. That’s it.
Public service interruptions: some outages due to coastal weather. Internet and temporary road closures.
Changes in patterns of life: None
Nothing further.
I’m at Camp Lejeune, Haven’t heard of a Crocmas Tree!
General Location: Upper New England
Food Price / Shortages: elevated/none
Fuel Prices / Shortages: Gasoline continues to fall. It can be found at under $3 with some looking around.
Unusual Military Movement:
NHARNG Blackhawks being utilized for rescue efforts in flooded mountain areas.
Civil Unrest / Crime:
There is a steady drumbeat of low level property crimes as well as serious unplanned crimes like hit and run episodes on the roads. Many offenders have been caught driving vehicles with expired registrations or expired drivers licenses, sometimes multiple times. There seems to be an uptick in the number of invisible homeless who are living in one type of vehicle or another. They have reportedly been moving during the day and parking over night in commercial parking lots.
Interesting Local News / Events:
Maine environmental board composed of 7 unelected appointees will be voting this week on whether or not to require auto dealers in the state to carry a certain percentage of their inventory in electric vehicles. An attempt in the state legislature to have that body vote on the board’s finding before it could take effect was killed by the speaker.
Portland Maine has cancelled plans to remove the homeless camp under the highway bridge in that city.
Public Service Interruptions:
A major wind/rainstorm transited the region Monday and did considerable damage. The storm dropped up to 4 inches of water, on a foot of existing snowpack in the mountains, and had winds over 70mph in coastal areas. Maine had over 400k homes without power at one point and many will be that way for a few more days. The rainfall hit the mountains hard and the melted snowpack has caused record flood levels in New England with widespread destruction. Many of the low lying towns and cities have only just recovered from similar floods this past year. The rainfall totals are running 8 inches higher then the annual norm.
Changes in Patterns of Life:

Western New York
Several major manufacturers have announced plant closings.
New minimum wage increases start first of the year.
County has announced an “Essential” list for various emergencies. The after effects of last year’s Christmas snowstorm and looting have only gotten more dystopian. A series of stabbings in front of Buffalo city hall/courthouse, emergency closure of the “gay bar” in the theater district due to shootings and stabbings all followed the fiasco of the city library becoming a crime, drug no go zone.
The “Border Car bomb” at the Rainbow bridge got the “nothing to see here” treatment: possible stuck throttle, floor mat…. waiting for toxicology…under investigation… respect the family’s privacy.
Overdose EMS calls have dropped off. Starting to see signs of “Tranq”, faces have slightly puffy for the weight loss and blotches bigger than meth scabs. They will look really bad for a few weeks before they are standing slumped over in a parking lot. No local tales of the gangrene, exposed bones, rotten fresh yet.
Deer season has been filled with reports of sick, thin and puss filled deer. The DEC says cars are getting safer for pedestrians and more deer are surviving getting hit but suffering from the event, and “no we don’t want to take samples or look at the carcass”.
I’m going to stop free hunting and have talked to several hunting lease salesman. Access to private land is about to become almost exclusively contracted. The days of riding a dirt bike, fishing farm ponds, hunting woodchucks have already gone the way of the full gun rack in the pickup window at school.
Basically nothing new to report.
General location: NE PA
Criminal activity/unrest: Lots of activity between 4 and 6 am, vagrants breaking into stores. That has been an increase since last year. This was information gleaned from doing basic sigint using an SDR. This may also coorelate with the absolute increase in digital and encrypted traffic on the airwaves in my locale. Lots of transmissions.
Patterns of Life: On average, almost never see people at the range. Yesterday with the current events in CO being what they are…. packed. Everyone was there with legit fighting rifles, some with kit, and none of them were the vatos with neck tattoos from Jersey, or Chinese. It was all the good guys.
