Americans Begrudge Biden’s Border Crisis, Economy
In a recent Fox News poll, an overwhelming 81% of voters attributed the ongoing border situation to Congress’s perceived lack of action.
Simultaneously, 72% placed blame on President Joe Biden for what they perceived as a failure in enforcement.
This data suggests a level of success in the Biden administration’s approach to deflecting responsibility onto Congressional Republicans.
This shift in blame followed the collapse of a bipartisan border security package, which included support for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
In retaliation, Republicans have squarely pointed fingers at the Biden administration.
Despite the finger-pointing at Congress, the border issue surprisingly emerged as a unifying concern among voters.
The poll revealed that only 44% of Democrats believe Biden has been largely successful in enhancing border security. Notably, a mere 20% of Democrats consider the situation an emergency, contrasting with 65% of Republicans and 31% of Independents who share this perception.
The U.S. Border Patrol’s apprehension of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border has exceeded 1.8 million since October, setting an annual arrest record with two months remaining in the fiscal year. While nearly half of these individuals were swiftly expelled under the Title 42 public health order, hundreds of thousands were permitted to seek asylum and other protections within the United States.
Lately, mainstream Republican leaders have increasingly been characterizing the surge of illegal immigration into the United States as an “invasion.”
