I’ve observed this as well. People buy a guy and believe it’s a talisman. There is bullet golf and then there is martial art with a weapon.

In my career as a gunsmith, I have told countless folks that having a gun doesn’t make you a gunfighter, any more than owning a ball bat makes you a major league Slugger.
