Radio Contra Episode 293. Helene’s Destruction in Appalachia, Biden Drops the Ball, and How to Help

Episode 293. I break down the historic damage to western NC and east TN in the wake of Hurricane Helene, which has destroyed much of Asheville and the surrounding towns. The herculean relief effort is underway – much of it absent any guidance from the Federal government – and I break down how you can help. I also cover the scandal that should be playing non-stop: how the TN National Guard was deployed literally the day before the storm hit.

Not that you need it, but I will back you up 100% with regards to the arrogance of EOC’s not giving a rip about HAM operators. 2 years ago I started a local emergency network with a very good friend of mine. One of our first orders of business was to book a meeting with the county commissioners and the EOC. At the meeting, I pointed out the glaring gaps in the EOP. We offered our services (HAM radio ops, organizing neighborhoods into teams, etc.) and they basically told us to pound sand. In the interim we have worked our rear ends off giving free training (med, comms, etc) to our neighbors and those from out of town. Now that we have a friendly on board with the commissioners, we are proceeding full speed ahead. Tommorow I am hosting all the ‘stakeholders’ at my church building. We’re getting the stuff done, Thank God! I just pray it’s not too late.
